In February, a 15 or 16-year-old girl (accounts differ) told a trusted adult friend that she had received a text message from Schermerhorn asking for nude photos. A subsequent investigation revealed that he had drunk-texted and Instagrammed a 17-year-old student with a similar request, and had sent a nude photo of himself to an 18-year-old girl.
Schermerhorn is facing two charges of attempted child exploitation for the communications with the under-18 girls; the communication with the young woman over the age of 18 was not illegal, although clearly not appropriate for a teacher. After posting bail in the amount of $7,500, Schermerhorn was released from jail. He was immediately suspended by the Clarksville Community School District, and two weeks later, was fired by the school board.
