School Board Update

Hi Neighbors – The School Board met last Tuesday to take public comment on the proposed budget for the 07-08 fiscal year. Approximately twenty-six people attended the hearing at the Burlington High School, and eight spoke to the Board. The main theme of the comments was to urge the Board to restore funding for the library paraeducator positions. Several people stressed how important those individuals are to the provision of services in the elementary schools. Support also was voiced for increasing the number of ESL positions in the District.

The Board took the comments under advisement and will vote on a final recommended budget at its regular meeting next Tuesday, January 9. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be held again in the cafeteria at Burlington High School (NOT Ira Allen).

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or Commissioner Amy Werbel (awerbel@bsdvt.org).
